For most of the samples in this portfolio, I developed the story idea and packaging concept, assigned it to a writer or writers, edited the manuscript at all levels from story structure to commas, and wrote the display (headline, subheads, photo captions, and such). I also worked closely with designers, art directors, and other editors to bring the story to life.
Along with recent pieces I’ve completed as a freelance editor in Toronto, I’m showcasing several pieces here from Cottage Life magazine. I was part of the editorial team for 11 years. It’s an excellent magazine; pick up a copy.
Editing is an invisible craft—when it’s done well, it’s difficult to see. If you look at a few different pieces here, I believe you will see consistent, high quality across a variety of structures, approaches, tones, and voices.
