Cottage Feast food section
Editors must be proactive when readers’ needs are changing
As the editor for Cottage Life magazine’s food content, I recognized in 2013 that recipe-focussed features were losing impact. I developed a new food section with fewer recipes but more cooking tips, food product reviews, and kitchen equipment guides. More beer and wine content proved popular with readers and advertisers, and a regular barbecue page enhanced the magazine’s position as the expert grilling source in Canada.
